Summary
Cumming First UMC is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Administrator of Finance. This role goes beyond standard financial oversight to also encompass responsibilities in Human Resources (contracts, payroll, and benefits administration). The ideal candidate will be highly organized, technologically adept, and familiar with nonprofit accounting standards and IRS regulations. This position requires oversight of both church and preschool finances and an acute awareness of checks and balances.
Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records in church-approved software, covering revenue, expenses, assets, and fund balances.
Support leadership in preparing and executing the Ministry Action Plan.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer offering counters in accordance with UMC guidelines.
Ensure accurate and timely deposits and contribution records.
Complete monthly account reconciliations, including church and preschool accounts.
Prepare checks with required documentation; enforce dual authorization policies.
Maintain segregation of financial duties for internal control.
Disperse designated funds and remit apportionments monthly.
Follow and uphold church financial policies; assist in policy updates.
Oversee payroll and manage church credit card usage and payment requests.
Collect and file required tax forms for staff and vendors.
Submit required UMC financial reports.
Support the annual audit and coordinate with auditors.
Assist the Generosity Team and Leadership Board as needed.
Onboard new staff, maintain personnel files, and administer employee benefits.
Negotiate and manage service contracts, leases, and the cleaning service.
Collaborate with staff and attend required meetings.
Participate in United Methodist training and resources.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of two years of relevant experience (nonprofit preferred).
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
High level of computer literacy; familiarity with Shelby, Microsoft Teams, and other ministry platforms.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Alignment with United Methodist theology and values.
Must pass background checks and complete Safe Sanctuary training.
Maintains confidentiality and approaches all tasks with a professional, welcoming demeanor.
