PASTOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE Position: Full-time, salaried Reports to: Senior Pastor MAIN OBJECTIVE In the context of the vision of The Luke Church the Pastor of Congregational Life will manage the day to day operations, the financial and administrative affairs of The Luke Church in addition to providing Congregational care and leadership development. DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS • Have a heart for knowing God personally and following Christ as a servant. • Possess a burden to see The Luke Church fulfill God’s plan as it continues to expand and minister in the Humble and Greater Houston area. • As a leader and example to the congregation, live a life of integrity in growing conformity to the standards of spiritual leadership set forth in scripture. QUALIFICATIONS The Pastor of Congregational Life should have the calling, gifts, vocational experience, and educational background necessary to: 1) Lead and equip the people in a ministry of care, 2) develop and implement a strategy to accomplish the vision for the programs managed, and 3) be able to provide counsel to those in need. Minimally, a Master of Divinity degree from a recognized seminary is required. JOB DESCRIPTION CHURCH OPERATIONS • Responsible for the execution and attainment of short and long-term operational goals. • Administer and enforce church-adopted administrative policies and procedures to achieve the goals of the church. • Serves on the executive leadership team that provides overall direction to the church. • Serve as the resource person regarding business and administrative matters of the church • Study semi-annually the insurance and benefits program of the church • Supervise Administrative Staff and contract employees. • Lead hiring, training, development, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and termination process for administrative & contract staff • Administrate Weekly Staff meetings • Attend internal / external meetings for global, visionary, and organizational matter, and to give financial updates for the church. • Provide building management for existing building and future construction stages to understand the facility in preparation for maintaining the facilities. • Provide project management as assigned FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION • Prepares, administrates, and reviews the annual budget process in collaboration with the Executive Team. Assist in presenting the budget to the Trustee Board for approval. • Oversees purchasing function by monitoring budget spending. • Oversees monthly, quarterly and year-end reports as needed. • Provide pertinent financial information to Senior Pastor i.e. monthly financial statements, budget forecasting and projections, financial trends, fiscal problem areas. • Review financial stewardship i.e. church operating budget, construction cost. • Oversees the maintenance of an accurate filing, record keeping, and reporting system for all financial matters. • Oversees a process to insure that GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles) is maintained at all times. o Separation of duties o Record retention policy o Follow proper payroll procedures o Make sure all income and expenses are properly accounted for and safeguarded o Responsible for monitoring internal controls and accounting procedures Care Ministry o Develops the care ministry of the church in light of the vision, goals and values. Regularly communicates to the congregation the vision and importance of caring for one another. o Supervises the development of a counseling ministry, including oversight of counselors. o Develops and oversees the delivery of care to those in need. Defines, initiates and leads the development of new care programs as the needs are identified. o Provide pertinent information concerning counseling, sick and bereaved and baby dedications. o Provides teaching and training for church leadership (ministers and diaconate) and church staff that enables them to be effective agents of care. o Educates and trains the congregation to care for one another and those in the surrounding community. This includes modeling, teaching, periodic hosting of appropriate seminars, and assessing the congregation’s ability to care for the community. Leadership Development o Shares with the leadership of the church the responsibility to champion the doctrine, mission and the vision of The Luke Church. o Assists the Senior Pastor in areas of leadership training and worship preparation as requested. o Responsible for development and management of clergy and diaconate. |
