It offers robust adult, family, children and youth programs and offers traditional as well as contemporary worship. The church runs its own food pantry, various assistance programs, and strives to serve its neighbors both far and near.
All are welcome to worship: Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.
OUR MISSION & VISION
Asbury's mission is to remain challenged and equipped to grow more disciples for Jesus Christ by practicing: Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk-Taking Mission and Service, and Extravagant Generosity.
Together with four adults and two children, Rev. Mitchell Williams decided to start a church in June of 1986. This church was to be truly open to all. This chur...ch would generously give to its community. And this church would make faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
The first worship service was held on Sunday, November 23, 1986 with 110 adults and 38 children in attendance. This “church” became Asbury United Methodist Church on May 17, 1987 and was named after Francis Asbury, the first Methodist Bishop in America.
The church began meeting in the Key-Royal building in 1986. A new, larger church was built near Highways 119 and 280, but its congregation outgrew it in less than two years. The church then bought a 31-acre tract of land across Highways 119 and 280 and began construction of its current facility. Phase 1 of the current facility included the Sanctuary and education space and was completed in June, 1994. Phase 2 included the Gym/Christian Life Center and additional education space and was completed in August, 2000. Phase 3 of construction is currently underway, which includes a larger sanctuary, updated youth and education suites, a larger music suite, and additional administrative offices.
Currently the membership of Asbury is just over 2,400.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
The United Methodist Church is a 12.3-million-strong global church that opens hearts, opens minds, and opens doors through active engagement with our world.
John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
