The Church Administrator provides leadership, manages and supervises
(i) the business and administrative functions of Emmanuel
(ii) all full-time and part-time paid administrative staff of Emmanuel
(iii) the Ministry Empowerment Teams which includes Communication, Finance, Information Technology, Nursery, Property, and Stewardship
The Church Administrator also oversees and provides leadership with respect to the business and operations of the church, including areas of finance, facilities, information technology, and human resources. The Church Administrator works cooperatively with the Pastors and coordinates the administrative support needed by the Pastors to support the Ministry Performance Teams and their activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises specific administrative staff which includes the office manager, bookkeeper, facilities manager and other administrative staff that may be added with respect to day-to-day operational, business, and administrative functions of the church, including (but not limited to) the following:
Financial and business operations, including budgeting and maintenance of Emmanuel’s books and records; submission of reports to Council and to the Finance Team.
Oversees the payroll processes including regular employee payroll payments and federal and state tax reporting and payments
Maintenance of computers and software; development of database; maintenance of website and social media.
Maintenance and care of the facility
Security of the facility
Communications, including social and print media, and the website.
Coordination of onsite operations and facility usage.
Administration of employee benefits, performance appraisals, hiring, and compliance and the records associated with these functions.
Manages the processes for recruiting, hiring, retention, promotion, and separation of administrative employees of the church, including identifying staffing needs and maintaining confidential personnel records.
Oversees staffing of the Nursery.
Manages the development of staff compensation and benefit programs to assure compliance with state and federal regulations and church policy.
Drafts personnel policy, implements, and maintains these policies and the Personnel Manual in coordination with the Vice President of the Council, Lead Pastor and the Staffing Support Team.
Creates, updates and maintains policies approved by the Church Council
Prepares and updates as needed office procedures to support the policies
Supports and coordinates with the Pastors and programmatic staff (Director of Music Ministries and Director of Faith Formation) in implementing their programs/activities; works with Council and other members of the church to help carry out goals, objectives, and action items under the strategic plan; and works with all teams to support their ministries.
Oversees implementation of Emmanuel’s Child Protection Policy, including coordinating with Pastors, programmatic staff, and administrative staff to ensure compliance; maintaining records; and coordinating with Staffing Support Team with respect to training and background checks.
Assesses existing processes to improve efficiencies and implement best practices. Creates continuous quality improvement processes.
Attends Council meetings and meets with the Executive Committee on a Quarterly basis.

Effective communications, interpersonal, collaboration and relationship-building skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Knowledge of the organization of the Lutheran church and its mission is helpful.
Additional Salary Information: Compensatory time is available.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church is located in Vienna, Virginia, and is a member of the ELCA. We have one lead pastor and are in the process of seeking an associate pastor and a director of youth ministries. We have a staff (full time and part time) of about 10. We have two worship services on Sunday morning (one contemporary and one traditional) and one Sunday evening service. We accept Jesus as our Savior and we seek to spread the Good News.
